Successes and challenges galore in Quirky Contraptions.
Now that the students have taken their toys apart and learned what the parts are (and how to get them working again), the students have begun building their quirky contraptions! They were SOOOOOO ready!!!!
One of the Quirky Contraptions groups really wanted to make LED headbands using their newfound knowledge of parallel circuits. So… we decided to have a bit of a Project Runway-esque showdown!
Fun with conductors, insulators, multimeters, resistors, potentiometers, LED’s, buzzers, motors, and propellors — with the occasional smoking short circuit thrown in for extra excitement!
Today students finished disassembling their toys and began tinkering with electricity in earnest. They began learning about circuits with their Circuit Stickers sketchbook, and quickly advanced to making their own circuits and sketches to go with their circuits. There were many groans of frustration, but even more screams of delight. Tomorrow we’ll work more with traditional wires and circuits, and begin exploring how to re-wire the toys we disassembled earlier in the project!
