The STEAM “Surge” Signups are here!

Dear SGS Parents,

The first-ever SGS STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Art, and Math) project “surge” is a chance for SGS students to immerse themselves in a traditional STEAM project that has been re-designed, with the help of a grant from the Women’s Funding Alliance, to specifically engage middle school girls.  The two-week intensive project STEAM Surge Project Optionsperiod will begin November 14th and run through November 26th.  Students in grades 5, 6, and 8 will soon be able to voice their project preferences before the cross-grade project groupings are formed.  During the STEAM surge, regular classes will be held throughout the morning hours.  The students will have their normal lunch period before heading off to work on their STEAM projects until the end of the school day.  Please discuss the project options with your daughters before they get the chance to officially state their preferred projects next week (using the attached signup sheet).  If you have any questions, feel free to contact Carly Reiter at creiter@seattlegirlsschool.org.

Thank you,

The STEAM Team (Kyle, Kat, Rosetta, Esther, Carly, Darin, John, and Rafael)

PS.  The 8th grade has not been left out!  They will soon be working on their “top secret” Hydraulic Arm Sugar Boost engineering project that will be used as part of their Mission to the International Space Station in February.
